Established as a corporation in 1977 in Columbus, Ohio, The Barcus Company, Inc. is a full service real estate management company. Philip Barcus joined the firm in 1976 and has owned and operated the business since 1985. The company makes Ohio the focus of its service area, which provides valuable familiarity and experience in local markets. From its inception, the company has specialized in federally assisted multifamily housing, along with conventional housing and other commercial property types including warehouse, office, and retail space.

- Management of over two thousand affordable housing units, in over thirty properties ranging from 18 to 224 units, including garden to high-rise, urban to rural, old to new, family and senior-only communities. Wide range of subsidy programs. Several properties successfully taken from troubled to stable and viable.
- Clients encompassing a variety of ownership types including Non-profits, Trusts, PHAs, Receiverships, LLCs, General and Limited partnerships, and Individual Investors.
- Over 800 units of conventional multi-family housing management.
- Management of over twenty-five commercial properties, in excess of one million square feet, including retail, office, light manufacturing, warehouse/distribution, and service centers.
- Numerous brokerage transactions including sales/acquisitions/leases of land, single family, multifamily, and other commercial buildings.
- Various tax credit compliance consulting for lenders on properties in several states.
- Full supervision of over twelve million dollars in initial financing and refinancing for multifamily properties including three M2M restructuring deals.
- Full planning and supervision of over ten million dollars of renovations primarily to multifamily properties, but also including other commercial property types.
